You can never be certain what marine life you’ll catch when fishing. You may catch a blue marlin one moment, and a big squid straight out of the depths the next. The fishermen have been fable-telling for millennia about colossal whales that may bring about a tsunami, gigantic carps that can swallow boats, and 50-foot bloodthirsty sharks. The animals from mythology and folklore are typically greatly exaggerated, but now that anyone can easily take a photo of their catch, some of those fabled marine creatures might truly exist.
These are the ten largest animals that fishermen have ever landed.
1. The biggest lobster
In 1977, the largest lobster ever was discovered in Nova Scotia. This enormous crab weighed more than 44 pounds.
2. The biggest catfish
The length of the biggest catfish ever caught was about 8 feet. In spite of their best attempts, a group of Thai villagers who were fishing tried to catch the beast, but it managed to slip away into the murky river.
3. The biggest stingray.
The prime specimen of the enormous stingray, which was found in Cambodia, is an excellent indication of how big they may grow to be. It is the largest freshwater creature on Earth. This 13-foot-long bottom feeder weighed more than 550 pounds.
4. The largest salmon
The absolute king of the salmon kingdom weighed about 90 pounds, more than twice as much as the typical fish.
5. The Biggest Squid
In the Arctic Ocean, fishermen caught the biggest squid ever. It weighed more than 1,100 pounds and was more than 20 feet long. What a Kraken that is!
6. Biggest Marlin
In 1984, a 16-foot-tall huge blue marlin was landed in Hawaii. The behemoth weighed close to 1560 pounds when the fisherman finally brought it up onto the pier to weigh and measure it.
7. The biggest sea bass
This sea bass had to be hauled out of the water by five persons in more than an hour. After all, the fish was 440 freaking pounds, so it makes sense.
8. The biggest king crab
The largest king crab ever caught weighed around 31 pounds and was 6 feet long. This is the origin of nightmares.
9. The biggest white shark
The longest white shark ever captured was a 17-foot-long Nova Scotian beauty known as “The Queen of the Ocean.” It weighed a whopping 3,500 pounds, so lifting it out of the water required a unique process.
10. The biggest oarfish
As you can see, the oarfish is a long fish that resembles a ribbon. Fishermen at Pemaquid Point in Maine snagged the largest specimen ever documented in 1885. It was a monstrous 25-foot-long object that weighed more than 600 pounds.
